How far in the program or have you finished? I’m thinking about going into the field
Didn't stop me from going to college. You found something better to do?
I was a liberal arts major. Became disillusioned. Now nursing.
Would you belive that in sociology class they tell you how history had been solved and then expect you to keep coming to class? Cringe af
I am jealous. If I was younger I would have gone in for that kinda thing. Whats the oath for that kinda tbing anymore?
Honestly, I woulda probably told myself the exact opposite. I'm now overspecialized and I can't find a different career path for a damn since I now fucking hate my job and have next to zero transferrible skills.
Oh no? Is that why I keep seing youtube videos of high level genetic science because there isn't much else to do with it?
I ended up working as a histotechnician (don't ask me how) and lemme tell you the possible alternative paths are next to none. Within a specialized genetics role it really depends where you're working. Hospital labs are a reasonably stable pathway. Private medical research companies vary wildly. Otherwise you're stuck in professional academia research forever. I can't speak for much else as I don't have much first-hand experience.
I have no "higher education". Went to trade school, worked as a machinist, a farm hand, a welder, a fork lift driver, and various other forms of "blue collar" labour. Currently work for a company that installs industrial garage doors.
Even better: My first job was at a company that made interiors for passenger train cars.
Train GANG GANG
This was in norway, so might be different in other countries. But is was good. First year was a kind of general "mechanics" thing where we'd learn the basics of engine maintenance/repair, machining, welding, sheet metal work, etc. And some electronics as well. Second year we'd specialize, and I went for machining. Third year was a paid apprenticeship.
I've genuinely enjoyed every job that this education has gotten me. We don't all have to be academics.
yeah, I don't want to sit at a desk forever, I like to be active and doing things.
dude that's hectic. When the apocalypse happens you'll do better than me- wasting my life pressing black and white keys on a music box to teach rich kids how to play baby shark.
