idk about germany but you dont take out your shoes in latin america when entering a home, but if a japanese asked me to i would do it ,just like if a muslim asked me to not draw muhammad.
Ok. In Europe (both East and West) taking your shoes off is also pretty universal, that's why I got confused by the comparison. But it still kinda holds.
