It's not really a monkey's paw situation, Vaush is popular because he is mind-numbing and unchallenging of liberal norms, so therefore he is incredibly digestible. It's tough to be a marxist, let alone an anti-imperialist, abandon socdem ideas, etc; but once you do it, it's liberating. Folks don't want to be liberated, they just want to sniff their own farts and think they have the moral high ground.
