He could have absolutely run as a democrat if he wanted to. They let Mike Bloomberg into the primaries so they would have let him in too.

In an alternate timeline libs are yelling at us to vote for Trump as harm reduction.

Nah, Trump IS the Republican party now and will be for years to come. He's going to be like the "party leader" and public face. Like what Obama is for the Dems, just louder instead of low-key.

You mean effectively instead of getting checks from City Bank to stop the NBA from stiking because their children might get shot for being black?

Yeah, as oafish as he is, Trump pretty much saved the GOP from certain destruction. He really is like some sort of prank from God that dragged a moribund bunch of demons and ghouls kicking and screaming back into relevancy without ceding a thing.

In April of 2015, it was pretty much a law of nature that the GOP was never going to win another Presidential election without embracing immigration reform and moving left on social issues. A guy who opened his campaign with "Mexicans are sending us rapists" just won incredible numbers of Latino voters, in multiple states.

He won those votes because even though many Americans do not want to face it, a huge part of them are cristian conservatives, a sizeble part of them also intolerant in most issues.

The way forward is focusing on class and the material conditions of people, not races in swing states.

Christianity is collapsing, hard, in the US. Modern conservatism is far more on the traditionally fascist path. They are appealing to a return to masculine glory.

Disagree, without the churches they are nothing.

If preachers start to get tgeir checks from liberation theorists and left leaning evangelicals the GOP is done for for real, we will never see the day though, most assuredly.
