If you find them lacking take a look into RedFightback Some reading requirements to get into and small, but it's growing and on the right path. They're the only ML party I would recommend in the UK, the others are terf shit.
If it's just "help people" you want to do and not party building combined with activism -- reach out and contact things. Anything. The first step is contact.
