Hot take: electoralism is a sham, but social democrats like the squad are evidence that at least a minority of Americans have some kind of class consciousness. That being said, I don’t think any socially democratic reforms will be present in the next 10-15 years, with things getting incrementally better while democrats hold office, and us taking a proverbial two steps back for when the republicans hold office. We need to inspire class consciousness, but trying to get americans to read Marx is a lost fucking cause. Information campaigns like the Gravel Institute already understand this; problem is the funding and accessibility of those resources isn’t present. I really think the future of the left lies in co-opting the right’s and democrat’s information campaigns

Americans have never read Marx, the fact even some are starting to is good. I think podcasts and other information outlets are the way to get people interested. Getting the lexicon of communism into the everyday thoughts of Americans is a win. Most people don’t hold strong beliefs one way or the other. It’s a big word cloud that’s constantly changing.

The more we get them to start using our words and framing the easier it is to convince them of the principles of Marxism. Getting more people to say bourgeoisie for example and have a somewhat coherent understanding of its definition radically changes public perception of who we are fighting. As with all information there will be the presenters, the gate keepers, and consumers. All are important cogs in the wheel.
