I'm not so sure. In 2016 -- an election in which Libertarians didn't get anywhere near the vote share Ross Perot did in either of his campaigns -- Libertarian voters accounted for 3.28% of the popular vote. Libertarians in 2020 got 1.2%.
Arguably they didn't peel off any appreciable amount of voters in 2016, and they performed significantly worse this time around.
Trump vote count rose in every state, often by double digits. In McGraths Kentucky race, Dems strank their vote by 1k while the GOP grew it by 200k, a 20% increase. In Pennsylvania, Trump gained 300k new voters, a 10% surge. In California, another 300k, an 8% increase.
Republicans profited significantly from Trump on the ballot over the last 4 years. Trump added 8M voters to his 2016 run. 12% overall. It just was not enough to beat Democrats this time around.
Libertarians sagged by comparison. Anyone thinking Libertarians cost Trump the election deserve to get dunked on.
