These people are a bit strange. Well-meaning, but they're dead-set on attributing every health consequence of obesity just to discrimination, poverty, racism, etc. Like, there's absolutely a connection there but there's also plenty of experimental evidence showing a causal relationship between obesity and like a million different health problems.

When I looked into this part of Twitter, I remember seeing them harp on about BMI and how it was invented by a eugenicist and therefore "fake".

Which doesn't make any sense because (1.) that's irrelevant and (2.) BMI is literally just a formula and can't be "wrong". It also doesn't really define obesity, it's just a rule of thumb for doctors to see if a patient might be obese.

yeah like idk why it's so fucking difficult for some people to have the following ideas coexist in their fucking brains

"don't be a dick to someone because they're fat"

      and

"obesity is a health issue and we should take it seriously"

and sadly a lot of people focus on that last bit without doing any further thinking as to why obesity is so strongly correlated with class, race, etc. so many people brush it off as "lol ur just lazy stop eating so much" which IS fatphobia. being fat doesn't make you anything other than fat. being fat is not bad, it is not good, it just is.

don't fucking mistreat anybody based on how their body is, full stop. don't assume someone's body type is indicative of their personality or character, full fucking stop. every human is human. every human deserves a right to health and happiness. recognizing that being extremely obese can get in the way of those things is not fatphobia. insisting that someone is miserable/unhealthy/whatthefuckever simply because they are fat is fatfphobia.

nuance is lost on too many people smh my head

sry i'm high and i have a lot of feelings

Honestly, the lack of nuance is a problem with a lot of socialists. Like, we see liberals abusing the concept of nuance when some things really are just black and white (American imperialism, Israel/Palestine, landlords) and then some of us respond to that by just abandoning the concept of nuance entirely.
