I sae Matt make this exact joke but with Trump and not Aoc. I imagine one of their writers might have seen it and "adapted" it. Without knwing why it was funny.
But the reason it works for Trump and not for AOC tho is that Trump was literally a TV show host before he was president, and because he just lost.
and because picturing Trump doing it is funny because he's a loudmouth jackass. Picturing AOC doing it is like, yeah I guess she might be ok at it if not pretty boring.
that's the pattern with rightist "satire"— they copy the surface-level form of a joke without realizing what makes it funny.
It's an opportunity to put a young, attractive woman on the screen.

I chuckle at some of them. There's just something silly and surreal when they fully crib the Onion's style, but accidentally do the conservative "humour" thing where you list every grievance you have until you make yourself actually angry.
