Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go ten thousand miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights?

No, I am not going ten thousand miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over. This is the day when such evils must come to an end. I have been warned that to take such a stand would put my prestige in jeopardy and could cause me to lose millions of dollars which should accrue to me as the champion.

But I have said it once and I will say it again. The real enemy of my people is right here. I will not disgrace my religion, my people or myself by becoming a tool to enslave those who are fighting for their own justice, freedom and equality…

If I thought the war was going to bring freedom and equality to 22 million of my people they wouldn’t have to draft me, I’d join tomorrow. But I either have to obey the laws of the land or the laws of Allah. I have nothing to lose by standing up for my beliefs. So I’ll go to jail. We’ve been in jail for four hundred years.

The National Defense Medal is literally a participation trophy. If you show up to your office job post in the sticks of Arkansas and shit yourself in front of the the Colonel, and the US is at war, it's medal time lol. it's the only one we come out of boot camp with. Unless you suckered your buddy into joining too, then I think you get some dumb ribbon and promoted to E-2.

The idiot who wears NDM merch unironically will get dunked on by other vets regardless of their rank or era.

I tense up when I see one. Even if it is some ancient looking dude. I just know that anyone wearing that shit is bound to be fantasizing about some massacres

Saw one of these on a white guy in an Asian grocery store. That was a tough one to keep calm around.

I accidentally linked a "Vietnam era vet" hat instead of a "Vietnam war vet", which I'm not sure I've ever seen, but the war hats are super common. If you walk around an American downtown you'll see at least one decrepit dude repping his war crimes...

There’s an old guy in my neighborhood who’s a Vietnam vet; he did one tour in the army and got out. The back of his car is covered in military-related stickers, and it’s front and center when you talk to him.

I’m sympathetic that he was tossed into something heavy at 18 years old, but I don’t understand basing one’s entire personality on, and ruining a nice paint job for, something you did for 18 months, 54 years ago.

Finally, he’s a big Trump fan.

I think it's often a gender identity thing, they can't consume their way to masculinity because they're too poor so they embrace combat, the only other capitalism approved expression of maleness.

Well it's not these days, at least around here. I guess agent orange really is as potent as they say
