Attendees were told to shelter in place in the Black Rock Desert and conserve food, water and fuel after a rainstorm swamped the area, forcing officials to halt any entering or leaving of the festival. michael-laugh

“A little over 70,000 people,” remained stranded Saturday, Sgt. Nathan Carmichael, with the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office, told CNN Sunday morning. Some people have left the site by walking out but “most of the RVs are stuck in place,” he said. farquaad-point

How much of a "techbro hippy" do you have to be to beat up environmentalists?

Genuinely confused as to why these yuppies still pretend to be on the left of anything after seeing that crap. This country has gotten real weird since 2016. Democrats today remind me a lot of the Neo-cons in 2004 and the Bush-era

it's 70k people and a lot of them are coding automatons from Silicon Valley who aren't worried about the environment because Elon is going to invent a planet saving machine any day now.

Burning Man isn't leftist at all. The core ethos is libertarian individualism to the core. They talk about community and shit all the time and it's mostly bs. There's no real solidarity, there's certainly little theory that isn't libertarian.

Their idea of "leftism" is "new bazinga technology will solve all problems inevitably."

That's it. That's as far as it goes. Status quo is good and soon superpowers and immortality! so-true

Originally it was a space for artists. It was a music festival that didn't provide any music, musicians just showed up and performed so you would never know what you were going to see. Attendees were expected to literally be part of the event. Buying things, from food to drugs, was discouraged. You were supposed to just barter or provide for the community.

Obviously all that is out the window now. Its just a big wealthy orgy waiting to see Diplo.

The scale of it allows for some really impressive art projects you probably wouldn't see anywhere else. There are a lot of genuinely cool people out there. There's just a lot of really, relaly uncool people too. And it's like the mass center of the universe for crypto-eugenicist individuality and psuedo-spiritualism.

I think the Burning Man event in particular was taken over by rich tech bros who by attending want to be seen by others as zen like, spiritual, and hip. There must be other outdoor gatherings with a more authentic vibe though, and who knows some might even have a groovy dope ass bear in attendance.

The remote event site in northwest Nevada was hit with 2 to 3 months’ worth of rain in just 24 hours from Friday to Saturday morning. More is anticipated Sunday afternoon.

Mud-Wizardry was an oft-overlooked prestige class developed in fan forums for overpowered DnD3.5 builds but has now become something of a shibboleth of real world manifestation after the marketeers as Hasbro blocked inventive class builds in 5e.

I wonder how radically self reliant they'll be on emergency services and outside rescue to get the raft of ravers out of this predicament.
