lock the world into new dynamics

I suppose that's one way to say that unregulated growth is going to boil the Earth until cockroaches and tardigrades are the only representatives of DNA based life.

Or even if all emissions stopped 50 years ago. The biggest question about this paper is whether its forecasts are reproducible using more complex global climate models. This model is designed to be simple and fast, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's not spatially resolved, at all, and it's heavily parameterized. Sounds like there's some healthy skepticism in the climate modeling community about these results.

Here's the paper describing the model: https://esd.copernicus.org/articles/7/831/2016/esd-7-831-2016.pdf
