Wasnt the one big criticism of automation was there were never as many jobs created as number removed?

Or like, after the dick-sucking factory was automated, and i lost my retirement and benefits, is my new job at the combination Pizza hut/Taco Bell drive thru really a plus in the end?

You're spot on. Another big criticism of "automation creates jobs" is the fallacy of thinking that trends continue forever, that because it happened that way 100 years ago it will happen that way tomorrow, and that there are no hard limits anywhere.

The hot take here is that leftists fall victim to some of this thinking when analogizing current events to past ones.

yeah, i tend to see that with particular niche tendencies that believe because it works here, it should work everywhere. like they don't know a thing about the thesis -> antithesis -> synthesis thing other the theory nerds pound on ceaselessly.
