I saw a post on r*dd*t where this couple went to the park literally a few days ago and I'm like "why?"

Disney+ is the only thing saving them at this point, because theaters are closed (or closing), the parks have seen decreased turnout. They delay their films because they are stupid and won't use their service to put out their tent-pole MCU movie (hi, Black Widow not releasing this year), and that's due to Star Wars baby show. Whoever is running Disney needs to just embrace digital at this point.

Trust me, they are. There were articles written months ago about shakeups and massive restructurings at Disney to focus on streaming which don't sound at all temporary.

The problem with shit like Black Widow is just how over leveraged and top heavy some of these Superhero tentpole films are. I made a post here about this but I read a transcript from a roundtable discussion involving a lot of directors and they made mention of the fact that basically these movies are so damn big that if even one of them tanks it could potentially bankrupt a studio. Probably not Disney but even so...what's basically happening here is all the studios are kicking the can down the road basically as long as they can, because they know at some point they are probably going to mark down all these big event pictures as a fairly substantial lost.

People like Patty Jenkins have already been sounding the alarm that theater shutdowns will not be easily reversible. We're going to feel the impact of covid for years. The entire entertainment industry is going to look very different in about two years if not sooner.
