There’s actually a lot of good political content on there if you let the algorithm have some time to work (if your SO is getting cringe content I don’t know how to tell you this but it’s bc they engage with/consume cringe content). It’s also a really good tool for engaging the young left and not letting them fall to the hard right pipeline.
I even watched over the last two weeks the discourse turn from calling everybody a “white savior” to realizing that saying shit like that all of the time and in every situation was performative.
Collectively left-tok corrected its course and focused back on actual leftist values. It was like watching tumblr except people from all different leftist ideologies came to the same (correct) conclusion to not spiral into hyper specific identities and factions. It wasn’t the first time something like this on left-tok has happened either, just the most recent and it’s been incredibly interesting and reassuring to witness. These leftist teens and young adults are way more coherent and organized than it ever was for me a dozen years ago, and that’s a really good thing.
I’m sorry for the wall of text, but I see a lot of people shitting on tik tok and honestly it’s an awesome tool for this generation to learn. I regularly come across leftist videos that start off getting bombarded by chuds and then blow up for a few million likes and views. There was no explicitly MARXIST CONTENT getting millions of views ten years ago.
If you get your algorithm right there can be some pretty good content on there. Except the political part of the algorithm keeps recommending me fucking ancaps and groypers
I keep getting libertarians with 6 followers, no idea what the algorithm is doing there.
