    Absolutely false. Modern lemons are most closely related to the citron, which is one the three parent fruits of all citrus cultivars that exist on the planet today. What most westerners call a "lime" is actually a hybrid of a kumquat and a mandarin, and probably the most genetically deviated citrus fruit from the citron.

        Yep, everything came from hybridization of citrons, most closely related to modern lemons, pomelos, the principal ancestor of grapefruit, and mandarins. Every citrus fruit you eat today is a "GMO"; modern oranges are a cross of mandarins, which were originally sour, and pomelos.
