This is my favorite genre of video I'll watch almost any so hit me with your favorites.
Two of my quick recommendations are Samsara and Century of the Self.
Jiro dreams of sushi is awesome, I havnt seen Koyaanisqatsi but have seen it mentioned a few times, thanks for those recommendations!
Man with a Movie Camera. 1929 Soviet Experimental doc. I've only seen the version with the Michael Nyman soundtrack but I couldn't find a link to that one.
The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On. A Japanese ww2 veteran tries to find out what happened to his old squadmates.
Harlan County U.S.A.. About a Kentucky miner's strike, won an oscar.
Not documentaries but if you like docudramas check out Peter Watkins: Punishment Park, Culloden, The War Game (could only find trailer) .
Wow those all sound like a look at an utterly unique perspective of people, thank you.
King Corn is incredibly dry but highly informative. If the history of American agricultural policy sounds interesting, then it's a great look into the average American farmer and the very base of the American food system. It's also free on YouTube, last I checked
Koyaanisqatsi: https://youtu.be/v6-K-arVl-U Coming war with china: https://youtu.be/vAfeYMONj9E
I fucking love Koyaanisqatsi. The first time I watched it was after taking LSD for the first time and doing a shitload of whip-its, that was wild.
Those are both fantastic, the core idea of century of the self helps to understand the fabric of America and also shows the insidiousness by which capitalism hollows out a society
Lobsters- The Armoured Knights of the Ocean, not expressly political but it's therapeutic to get baked and watch nature documentaries on youtube. Plus lobsters kickass
i remember someone on the old sub recommended john pilger. i've watched 'the coming war on china' and 'utopia' which is about aboriginal australians. both were interesting but pretty depressing
heres a link
