If you all don't have anything else to do the Thanksgiving parade is hilariously poorly produced and weirder this year than normal.

Edit: it's honestly like a bad dystopian movie. Like all the people who are normally there were raptured away and those who stayed are forced to perform this awful parade for no one.

The entire event this year has the same energy as the last time the Soviet anthem was played at an army parade in 1990

Capped off by the fact that Macy's will almost certainly go bankrupt within a year or two, IMO. Department stores were already struggling big time before COVID, don't see how they'll survive this. The subtext is all too blatant now.

And it's all just so obviously corporate. There's nothing fun about it. I watched it for only a few minutes and all I saw was a giant Boss Baby balloon, the fucking Jolly Green Giant (mascot for crappy canned veggies), and some bullshit float with a massive "New York Life" (life insurance) logo slapped on it. And of course the icon of American Capitalism himself, Ronald McDonald.

"Authoritarian" regimes get to have cool parades of infantry, anti-aircraft systems, nuclear warheads and tanks. The US gets parades of donut scarfing cops on Harly Davidson Fatboys, Ronald McDonald balloons, department stores, and cultural appropriation dialed up to 11 as if to pretend US hegemony is a genuinely intersectional coalition of the willing.

Isn't the parade a huge waste of helium too?

A non-renewable gas essential for many medical services.

you've got my attention on helium economy

does helium decay? where do they get it in the first place lmao? can't they just get it back outta the air?

Helium doesn't decay, but it does rise to the top of the atmosphere, and then slowly escapes into space.

It mostly comes from radioactive decay in the earth. An alpha particle is a helium nucleus, so anything that alpha decays is slowly making more helium. I think we get a lot of our supply as a side product of natural gas extraction.

I was watching the spits verizon stream and they played shitty generic jingle music instead of the music from the performances. It's an absolute trainwreck. not to mention how super depressing it is too
