I find this extremely funny as someone who grew up in a majority orthodox country with like 0 catholics/protestants. What are these people like? Why do they convert?
I'm in Russia, so I'm in the same boat as you, but I assume they think Orthodoxy is even more based and trad than Catholicism. Like lately the Pope has been talking about acceptability of civil unions for gays. You wouldn't catch an Orthodox Patriarch saying anything progressive.
Yeah they typically just hate people in general lol. They tried to get us all killed here too because they refused to even slightly change their customs for Covid, apparently it was super important to them that everyone eats from the same fucking spoon. For now they're only getting themselves killed (although unfortunately the one who died so far was the very rare case of someone who, while not progressive, at least was a decent person).
Sooo anyway, how's Russia? I'm actually sorta interested in going there for grad school or whatever if I can't get into a good enough program somewhere else. Less likely to bankrupt me too.
I mean, Russia isn't doing well. They've dropped the ball on covid, economic support during the pandemic is almost nonexistent, the economy is failing and the cost of ruble is unprecedentedly low.
I've asked my SO who's is a grad student here in Moscow and she's convinced that getting into a grad school here is a very bad idea. The education system has been falling apart for some time now. Post-doc on the other hand might be a smart idea.
Interesting. Well, sounds like everywhere right now lol. I was mostly asking about what life in general is like, how people are like, etc. I was actually eyeing at Lomonosov for physics, do you have any idea what that is like?
I’ve always associated it with Eastern Europe for some reason
Because all that stuff is orthodox symbolism and Eastern European countries are majority orthodox. I don't think the shirts have a name. I live in a country that is like 90% orthodox and I've never ever seen anyone wear this shit, idk if some people in Eastern Europe wear them but I have a feeling it might be something weird American converts came up with.
Yeah well not sure they know it is an orthodox thing lol. Like, the Catholic Church tends to prefer Latin, it is the Eastern orthodox Church that prefers medieval Greek.
His shirt looks orthodox to me.
The Opus Dei types go in for all that symbology, too, don't they?
Idk, if you say so. I don't know any catholics.
It is but they both share the same type of chuds.
There's orthodox chuds in the US???
(I am not trying to say that there aren't orthodox chuds, it just surprises me that there are orthodox chuds in the US)

Rasputin?
Did what? Lmao I need to know about this.
Yeah we do. Religious extremism is getting a bass boost the last couple of years.
Lmao
Didn't one of the reading series's "demons are bimbofying the youth" people first convert from Protestantism to Catholicism and then to Orthodoxy?

Also, I forgot to add, 90% of people say they are orthodox Christians here, but only about 80% of people in total say they believe in God. Go figure.

But yeah I guess they probably just like the aesthetic.
