I was told in New Jersey it's a three tier sandwich with rye bread, the top tier is Russian dressing and roast beef, the bottom tier is turkey or ham and cole slaw.
Wrong, right?
Caramelize onions, toss in some aji amarillo powder and garlic, cook 30 secs to a minute until fragrant, throw in soy chorizo, frozen bell peppers, and a can of petite diced tomatoes, reduce until the water is gone, serve on a nice brioche with cheddar cheese and hot sauce and/or BBQ.
So good.
Nah, what's great about a sloppy joe is you can fit a shitton of uncooked off alcohol in them, and you'll get drunk as you eat. It's great. You can't do that with some fancy french dish.
Have some more SLOPPY JOES! I KNOW HOW YOU KIDS LIKE EM XTRA SLOPPY!
THAT JOE ISN'T LOOKING SLOPPY ENOUGH FOR ME, JACK! HOW THE KID GOING TO GET ALL MESSY IF THEY AIN'T GOT A SLOPPY ENOUGH JOE!
That is correct. Only in north Jersey, though. Haven’t seen it anywhere in south Jersey. Also if you’re not literally in a deli people usually assume you’re talking about the ground beef hot sandwich. I dunno. It doesn’t make sense. Also I worked at a deli that used only two slices of bread, instead of three.
Sounds about right. Usually people would order a “turkey joe” or “roast beef joe” or “ham joe” and that would make it clear they’re not talking about the saucy manwich sloppy joe. In my experience it’s one kind of meat per sandwich, instead of how you described it.
Edit: and with Swiss cheese
