My entire family back home have been going through COVID the last two weeks. Thankfully they've all been relatively okay. I called my mom today and she asked if I was going to come home for Christmas (about 800 miles, 5 states away), felt heartbreaking when I could only let out a weak chuckle and try to change the subject. This shit fucking sucks, man.
