A good summary of meritocracy, technocracy, populism, the failures of the DNC.
I'm really impressed with myself how much I've turned on Obama, even in the last few weeks. I volunteered for him back in 2008, and now I consider him to be one of the worst people. A Pete Butigige, but with the charisma to pull it off
I went through this same thing. I was younger back then and fell down the conspiracy rabbit hole, yet some how came out of that a Marxist, so it was for the better.
All my friends from high school were radicalized by Alex jones. I think the big one for me that broke me from conspiracy/Libertarian stuff was the Trayvon Martin shooting which is where all of them went full mask off with their racism. These people who spent years yelling about police brutality and injustices in murder, suddenly were A-OK with a black teenager being stalked and murdered at night.
All you have to do is look at the pro-Israel murals in staunchly Protestant areas of Belfast to figure that out. Or do some research and realize that it's the same people who have been stirring up shit "on the frontier" as the enforcers of empire, whether it's Ulster, the Virginia backwoods, the Australian bush, or anywhere else the Anglo appears.
I wish I could go back and talk with my younger self, because I definitely was disappointed in him almost immediately when he didn't use his army of young people to *do anything coming into power in 2008. But the manufacturing consent/overton window is real and I didn't know you could be angry with him from the left
lmao these guys feel so behind the times for some reason even though it was posted yesterday. felt like we were back in 2017 or something
Libs still haven't taken a critical look at Obama, anything that can push this into liberal narrative spaces like "the majority report" is welcome. But yes, Thomas Frank was making these same arguments back in 2016 when his book critiquing the democrats "listen liberal" came out. From the tiny segments I can stomach, Sam still entertains the idea that "democrats mean well they’ve are just incompetent" so this will probably take a long time..
And they never will. Obama is literally their version of Reagan.
They have spent 12 years building a cult of personality around that man. He isn't the only one who was worried about his legacy, libs worried about it too. As far as it's concerned, Trump absolutely is part of his legacy, cause he led straight to him. Not enough is talked about with the Obama voters who switched to Trump in 2016. Even counting this election, Dems still squandered the senate and they lost several seats in the house, so Biden's victory really isn't all that.
Sam has been sounding schizophrenic when I tune in recently. I don’t know how he believes what he believes about the Democrats.
Probably still angling for a spot at MSNBC
Whatever credibility MR had died with Michael Brooks
Honestly, I'd rather a lot of these people kept their fantasy instead of shitting up the Left because they feel scorned. We don't need anymore ethereal bisexuals or "goth socialists" who just want the Obama 2008 platform with some extra goodies and extra speaking truth to power, man.
