Fun fact: A very slightly tweaked version of this same 50-year-old design still provides communications, altitude adjustment, toilets, sleeping quarters, exercise, a experimental greenhouse, and all of the life support to the ISS.

If the designers were smart they would make this machine so it would fail in minor ways within a year or two, so that they could also profit from ongoing repair contracts, and eventually replacement.
