I was confused about why this guy was an Austria-Hungary fan, until I eventually squinted at his name, whereupon the cringe sent me to the underworld. The souls of 40 billion damned say hello.

the habsburgs stopped being so inbred in like the 1700s. this is old news, charlie of spain was the last worst one of that mould (and his ailments were exaggerated in autopsy)

i want more jokes about the hilarious disfunction of the damn austro-hungarian empire, not 'inbreeding lmao'

That's not entirely true. One of the last Austrian emperors, Ferdinand I, only had 4 great-grandparents. His parents... had the same grandparents. As a likely result, he suffered frequent seizures, was somewhat feeble-minded, and was infertile, which left his government weak and divided within itself between rival ministers, leading to him being deposed by his nephew in a coup.

The best humor at the expense of the Austro-Hungarians comes from their unhappy, but willing to laugh about it, (Czech) subjects like Jaroslav Hašek and Franz Kafka. We're pretty far removed from that time to laugh about them intelligently.

yes you are correct, and like, all royals have higher occurances of some diseases even to this day--but the whole distinctive outward characteristics was banished.

but what's a bit of disease to the ruler of a big country really, they had the healthcare and help.

When I was younger we had a Swedish member of parliament by the name of... ehum...

Walburga Maria Franziska Helene Elisabeth von Habsburg-Lothringen

I remember her speaking on the radio about how she was just a "normal person" and can "relate to the people" while also living in a castle with like 20 cars and a private airport.

Needless to say she was a member of the neoliberal moderates. She's now a part of the Institute for Information on the Crimes of Communism.
