This game is pretty cool but the imperialist propaganda is grating. I looked up the original Rainbow 6 book and the protagonist is a CIA operative who forms a NATO counter-terrorism group, Rainbow (because they’re so diverse). The bad guys are a group of left wing eco terrorists. At the end, since there won’t be enough evidence to convict the terrorists, he strips them naked and leaves them in the middle of the Amazon to die (since they love nature so much). American culture is so cool, Tom Clancy is our hero.

    well the action of the game is that you're a bunch of international cops all dornering each other...

    but yeah, military shooters are super chuddy. the newer dooms are at least radlib, iirc the energy source is literally derived from the suffering of human souls

    so the energy comes from the transformation of humans into demons, and for a long time it was just used for sustenance by the demons themselves. then the maykrs increase their exploitation of the energy through torture and colonization. doomguy's task is to then rip and tear his way through the colonized on his way to the big bad guys? maybe there's something in the transformation of the tortured souls into demons that's like, the Settler's contention about how the "proletariat" of imperialist nations has bourgeois consciousness? but the supposition is that the human souls would turn into demons on their own over time, so that might be the anti-materialist thread to pull.
