recently had to kick a Black Nationalist from a discord server after she started yelling slurs at a fellow comrade for posting a pic of her (white) and her Black husband. started off by saying "tag that shit NSFL next time." i was so ridiculously shocked that a comrade would say shit like that to a fellow comrade???
Yeah it's fucked up. Tbh reactionary black nationalism is pretty big here in Bmore, much bigger than left wing black liberation movements. It's pretty disheartening. I really think it's because the feds completely crushed Black Marxists in the 60s but allowed the hotep movement to flourish. Some of these folks have rhetoric identical to white nationalists, where miscegenation is genocide and black people should be forced into bantustans and Jews eradicated.

I know there were those dudes at Lexington market and that kinda weird muslim group on Howard, but when I lived there all my black coworkers thought it was dope I was a commie, and while a lot of them were adamant they wanted to be with black women none of them ever had any problem with my crack ass dating an Ethiopian woman.
In my experience, black folks are pretty open to the idea of communism if they're not heavily into another ideology already (at least compared to their mayo counterparts) so yeah that's true. I think there is latent sympathy for left wing causes but black nationalists are organized. When the first BLM protest this year happened I went down to where the March started and there was a sea of Black Israelites standing around handing pamphlets to every black man that walked by. I went with a black man and they waited till I turned away to light a cig to walk up to him. NOI was out there too. I think the only organized black political orgs bigger than them is Democrat-affiliated nonprofits. It's kind of tough because the radical left is mostly white in a majority black city and when an all black group tells you that they're just colonizers trying to use you it can seen compelling. I can't really make a compelling argument against it because I'm white and it can easily look like a white boy telling them what's good for them.
Hm, fair. I’m just saying I meet a lot of black people who were into Panthers aesthetics when I was there and would be impressed when my honkey ass knew who Fred Hampton was. But yeah the NOI guys are always around at BLM stuff sadly.
I get what you mean. I don't think that reactionary black nationalism is by any means the standard. I just really hope Communist ideas can spread not only in the black community but in all working class communities, and I think the left being heavily white is definitely detrimental to that.
it's the other side of the coin of advocating for interacial relationships to "improve the race," (mejorar la raza) which you see a lot in Latin America with the whole idea of blanqueamiento (whitening). It has analogues in the US in the form of colourism, but there are people that take that and run into full blown "race science" like "divesters" (black women "divesting" from black men) and SYSBM ("Save Yourself Black Man" [from black women]) types. It's pretty sad, especially when you see these people use this kind of race science to explain everything from black poverty to the failure of Reconstruction.
edit: admittedly those people are very online and super fringe, unlike the reactionary types of black nationalists, but it is interesting to note.
