We did “pay people to stay home”. That’s what the CARES act was!

CARES Act gave (some, not all) people $1200 once, and had a $600 increase for unemployment. No additional pay for people that still had to work, no federal lockdown, no one was paid to stay home. The CARES act was almost entirely corporate bailouts. Actual people got a pittance if they got anything at all. I didn't get a cent from it because I never got a check and since I worked at a hospital I didn't get unemployment either.
