In an age where we are having massive protests over police brutality, systematic racism and corruption, these people would want to march for a millionaire actor who has pretty much ruined his reputation and good guy image with this whole case.
His fans remind me of the K-Hive but a celebrity version.
Edit: I know, this is a dumb post, but it's Saturday, off work and been drinking, feel like discussing entertainment bs.
I don't even know who's mainly at fault between Depp and Heard anymore.
At first it was Depp.
Then it was Heard.
And last I heard it was both of them apparently.
By the looks of things, it's probably both of them, but this case has been so politicized by his fans, that you're expected to pick a side. Pro-Johnny or Pro-Amber or whatever. I'm in the camp that thinks Johnny is a fucking idiot and is just making himself look dumber and dumber by pushing this with all of his witnesses and dragging up every woman he's ever known and begging them to defend him.
The big game changer was when it came out in court that his sister worked at Warner Brothers and he tried to have Heard fired from the set of Aqua Man by pulling strings. They didn't fire her but WB responded by getting rid of him for Fantastic Beasts (funny how none of Depp's fans want JK Rowling cancelled for all her transphobia), but it's worth noting that they gave him his millions of dollars in salary upon pushing him out the door.
I've looked way too much into it. if I had to make assumptions based on everything I've read, it seems Depp was rather abusive, and most of what Heard did was in self-defense (which domestic violence abusers tend to use against their victims a lot like Depp did). But we weren't there, so we can never truly know, but that's kinda what it's pointing to with all the evidence.
How can anyone be THAT terrible with money? At a certain point can’t you hire some really smart accountant to invest your shit for you and just get a constant stream of dough no matter how fucking stupid or coked up you are?
Hollywood actors can be rich, but the really successful ones end up surrounded by people who are wealthy, and from there the expectations to spend catch up to them. I've always felt like if I had a million dollars I could probably retire and live on the interest, but I'm not surrounded by people who will be expecting me to show up to $15k per plate fundraisers for Pete Buttigieg.
I know. I was talking about a hypothetical carnival dunk tank. It's the only way I would give any money to Pete. And $15 is my ceiling.
To an extent I get that but Depp has been in a lot of big shit. I do struggle to imagine what he’s been blowing this cash on that an above average accountant getting paid well couldn’t work around.
Which is why his fans need to march on Hollywood for JUSTICE. Johnny Deep needs more money so he can buy another private island, limo, booze and god knows what else!
I think a lot of movie stars are like this. Cage and Deniro come to mind.
Johnny depp is a shitty fucking actor.
His fans are all very smart.
I remember when he was a mega star and actually was in some good movies (Cry Baby, Donnie Brasco, Fear and Loathing) but never knew he had such a cult-like fan base.
Imagine wanting to sign petitions for an asshole who made half a billion dollars in a span of 5 years making movies and wasted all of it trying to be a rock star and getting loaded and drunk all the time.
he did have some good movies in the past. He was good in Gilbert Grape too, I thought.
I too have a hard time understanding his fan base. Or most fanbases for that matter.
Had an argument with my friends on cancel culture and they used Johnny Depp as an example on why its a huge problem. Like wow, now that you say that I'm really gonna shed tears for a millionaire.
It's become politicized with him for some odd reason. You cannot discuss this case at all without being expected to choose a side. One side labels you an Esssss Jayyyyy Dubah-yoooh, and the other I guess calls you a sexist.
it blows my mind that anyone would be so invested in the identity of being a "johnny depp fan", or really a fan of any actor, that they would boycott movies over it lmao
I think the majority of the people supporting him are just enjoying the chance to accuse a woman of domestic violence.
Its just a diffusion of the rage people feel at their own situation into something meaningless that doesn't challenge anything.
If we count cultural hegemony as oppression than America is the most authoritarian state in world history.
Long story short;
After his divorce from Heard, he pushed a libel lawsuit at The Sun in the UK and the Washington Post here in the US. The libel lawsuit is over them labeling him a "woman beater" when they published the photos of Heard all bruised up. He claims he has to restore his reputation and his fans want The Truth™ so his good name is cleared. The first thing his cult fan base latched onto was Heard confessing that she hit him back and confirmed that the domestic violence was basically them both beating up on each other (which makes sense!).
Depp had to admit in court that his good guy brand image is nothing more but masterful PR, which is what his fans buy into. He admitted it himself too, that he has never stopped drinking or using drugs. All this came out in court as they had to start digging up dirt over who said what and who did what. He's managed to royally fuck himself with this case cause all of his dirt has come out and he don't look like this good guy/family man/whatever that his fans bought into (which really isn't a shock given we've been hearing stories of him being drunk off his ass in Hollywood for years). His court defense was to blame it all on her with the "she was doing it with me" defense.
His fans lost their collective minds when he was removed from Warner Bros' Fantastic Beasts (however no word from his fans that they paid him his millions of dollars in salary), and they want Amber Heard removed from Aqua Man 2. This all came as a result of it coming out in court, that Depp reached out to his sister working at WB and he tried to have his ex-wife removed from the set. WB dropping him is pretty much them washing their hands from bad publicity.
UK courts ruled against him and he lost his case, which means he's most likely going to lose his $50 million lawsuit against the WashPo as well, but his fans want JUSTICE and I guess they're willing to march for a millionaire celebrity.
