China already did it. People buy warehouses where electricity is cheap, fill them with super basic processors, and then pay a couple guys to maintain them 24/7. Although the last time I heard about this was a couple years ago so who knows if those places are still profitable.

Not processors, ASIC circuits (the former hasn't been realistically useful to mine bitcoin for close to a decade). These warehouses even have stuff that'll reduce / turn off the mining dynamically depending on the current price of electricity.
Worldwide, bitcoin alone consumes more electricity than whole countries. And it's only one of many cryptocurrencies; they're an ecological disaster (the only thing going for them is they allow to buy VPNs, servers or drugs anonymously I guess; but you could do that even before they appeared).
