And you can buy guns in MD, it's just impossible to get a CCL and you can't open carry pistols. There is a rifle 12ft from me right now. I could just illegally carry a gun but I'm not an idiot and realize the chances of me getting arrested for that are probably much higher than actually using it to save my life.
