Just because you can’t wake up and say you’re serving the motherland does not mean you can’t wake up and absolutely crush it as a communist in a capitalist world. You can wake up and serve yourself, serve your community, and do as much as you possibly can to dismantle oppressive structures and get us one step closer to a communist future. Do self care, but don’t grow complacent.

“Complacency is the enemy of study. We cannot really learn anything until we rid ourselves of complacency.” - Mao

Edit: we need something corny like /c/motivation or /c/discipline it’ll actually be so helpful

I’m all for encouraging people to work hard and stay motivated, but there is something insidious about the whole self-help industry mentality. The problem is: it takes social problems and individualizes them into personal failing. “Feeling overworked, tired and depressed? That’s because YOU aren’t trying hard enough, just do X, Y and Z and you’ll have the superhuman energy to accomplish every goal you have!”

It reminds me of companies that overwork their employees then turn around and say “make sure to take care of your well being, here’s a coupon for $5 off 1 yoga class.” If seeing uplifting quote over a picture of a waterfall inspires you, that’s great. But for people with mental illnesses, sleep disorders or are in hyper-exploited positions that constantly sap their energy, that stuff rings very hallow.
