I stopped using twitter not long ago because I felt that the format was fucking up my attention span, but the coolest thing about twitter is that famous people are there. I've got to interact with some of my favourite sci-fi writers on twitter. How cool is that?
I joined twitter really early then stopped using it until like a year ago. One of my favorite things was following musicians I've loved since I was a teenager, and finding out they're in the same political circles as me, then actually interacting with them, talking about music, etc.
The people I want to hear from the most would be the last ones to join mastodon.
It's a trade-off, unfortunately. I deleted my twitter a year or so ago and haven't signed back up because that place is so lousy with chuds. BUT! It let me have conversations with some of my favorite bands, artists, podcasters, writers, etc. But the mental anguish just ain't worth it
