762x39 is cheap compared to everything else in the pandemic. About 32 CPR for steel cased ammo. And any AK or SKS style gun is going to work perfectly with steel.

If you need a pistol, probably don't get a 9mm right now, consider a 22lr with high capacity. 22 is still deadly, it's not that different from a better caliber, especially if you have like 20 rounds to easily fire into something. 22 does fail to cycle a bit more though.

22lr prices went up, but it's still dirt cheap. This is especially important if you are a new gun owner. You'll wanna practice without spending 65 cents a fucking round.

ammoseek.com has generally the best deals readily available.

It doesn't really help you find the random one-off sales that last like 2 goddamn minutes at the normal pre-covid price. But you're never gonna get completely fucked either.

I really want to pick up a WBP Fox or Zastava ZPAPM70 as a first AK but seems really hard to find one right now

Yeah they are overpriced, I was looking for one forever and settled on an SKS, which are hard to find but cheaper. It's awesome to shoot, and has a neat spring loaded bayonet.

For these, I've had decent luck (1) finding a sold out type of ammo at a cheap price, (2) signing up for the "notify me when back in stock" option, and then (3) buying when I get an in-stock email.
