This is a leaked video from Blackwater in Iraq. It's some horrifying shit - they're just driving into town running over people and shooting random people for fun. when i went back to college at age ~27, i ended up sitting next to a guy about my age who had enlisted right out of high school. he didn't look the type, he was real a real shy sort, soft spoken. after striking up a conversation i discovered his previous stint in the army (i think that was the branch) and he told me a story that always sticks out.
when they would drive across iraq/afghanistan (i can't remember where he was) there would be just miles and miles with nothing in sight. in their convoy, they had a cherry picker. his commanding officer, every single time they would stop in a small village, basically ransack the local grocer, and his CO would have them lift the cherry picker so on their way out they'd knock out the electricity for the village. always said he hated it bc he felt bad, but also because on their way back they'd have to take a lot of precautions because those towns would often plant explosives to try and payback the disservice done to them.
his story out of all this mess, and the more i hear about the war, somehow being the most benign story (knocking out fucking power grids bc brown people bad) is just so fucked up. it is probably the first time i ever looked critically at the bullshit the usa did over there.
