Really? Here they always stay as far away from human trails as possible, and run away if you see them. What I heard of bears is that they seek people, eat their food, and if you try to shoo them away you get mauled.
Huh, the occasional mountain lion in northeastern US gets a ton of news because they tend to be pretty aggressive, but perhaps that's more because they are lower populations than bears.
Northeastern US mountain lions get news because there's a huge debate about whether or not they exist east of the Mississippi. If you want to go down a rabbit hole, give it a google.
Of course I don't want you to dox yourself, but what region of the country do you live in? I live in the Southwest and we call them mountain lions. I've never met a person who uses the term puma.
There are no bears where I live. I have seen pumas however.
a puma sighting gets way more points than a bear
Yeah I’m way more scared of cougars than I am of bears
They are too slender to assume geometric shapes though.
I feel like pumas are way more interested in attacking humans than most bears are.

I believe it too, probably just in very small numbers. Fairly certain there was a sighting here in NJ near the Pennsylvania border a year or two ago.

Bobcats def want to fuck up house cats, but I've never heard of them going after humans.

I'm far more likely to be wrong than they are.
