I'll probably be fine but my grandma is definitely going to die and that has me horrified in ways I can't even describe with words! I might not be financially dependent on her anymore but I am emotionally dependent on her and while she's 85 she's healthy enough that I thought I had a good decade left with her around until this fucking virus hit. Cool stuff.

It's not entirely impossible for her to survive, it'll depend if she gets the vaccine in time though.

Yet I'm the one who's supposed to get it early. Because I'm disabled. My only actual risk factor is that I'm obese. I'd give up my early date for her in a heartbeat.

So the vaccine DOES resist the new strain? I was concerned about that.

My grandmother with COPD caught it and came out alright. Seems completely random who gets dangerously sick and dies.

I think there's a lot of factors we won't fully understand until years later, if at all, e.g. the potential of cross immunity from prior coronavirus infections, or the impact of initial viral load.

The obesity/diabetes/asthmas is a non-issue unless you're in the 20% who get seriously ill.

If you're in the 20% AND you have obesity/etc, then you die. If you're in the 20% but apparently healthy, then you just get lifelong-COVID.

If you're in the 80% and obese, then it's "just a flu"
