This is the map charting the course of civilization Romney apparently has up in his office. Mentioned on last week's Chapo episode.
To point out the obvious this is an incredibly stupid way to discuss history and its based on obvious racist assumptions. But it's really funny how it thinks Pharoanic Egypt and the pre-Greek Agean civilizations are superpowers on par with the British Empire. Also the Frankish Empire that lasted for 20 years under Charlemagne and immediately got broken up by his shitty sons gets big coverage.
America does not have the same relative power as France+UK
the combined might of Russia and China in 2000 is less than France. what
It ends somewhere around 1930 and seems to entirely be based on the vibes the creator felt about any given country: the USSR is narrower than Germany, Japan is wider than Germany, and France is nearly as wide as Germany + Austria put together. Staring into the abyss left as the creator's brainworms bored through everything is fascinating in a "I think I'm giving myself psychic damage trying to comprehend this" way, and you start noticing stuff like how Latin America is just sort of there in a way that shows the creator didn't really differentiate between the countries and was just like "an unlabeled even bar for each is fine, idk what's going on there but this is intuitively correct."
The Han dynasty gets a fraction of the Roman empire even thought it was bigger lol
I went to school with someone from Bangladesh who loved the fuck out of Tamerlane.
