Odds that this person is also really worried about the possibility that AI might kill everyone on Earth as a result of a misinterpretation of something like "decrease the murder rate?" I'd guess high.

which is not even remotely how AI works that's how a genie works. AI is designed by people to improve it's ability at a specific task. It is a very good tool for a task like identifying which images contain birds but that's all it is getting a computer to do statistics really fast to make good predictions

now a system that consumes all the resourses in the world to make more paperclips exists but it's called capitalism

In the timescale of the universe, starving people to death in concentration camps took a relatively short amount of time. We can continue to make the scale larger so that the time spent starving looks smaller by comparison until it is acceptable.

Nazis deserve a fucking hole in the ground.

In German the phrase for it is "Vernichtung durch Arbeit" (destruction through work) and its enactment can be found in official Nazi documents. The whole post that OP links is Holocaust denial and ought to be punished.

Stalin made people work until they were well into their mid-60s, which was a real tragedy given that life expectancy in pre-Soviet Russia was the early-30s. Dude forced you to work two full lifetimes! That's where Communism gets you.

Nazism, like all forms of fascism, falls apart without an enemy. Even if they managed to kill all the Jews and Slavs, people would still be murdered on the suspicion of being Jews and Slavs for as long as Nazis are in power.

i've long held that if fascists couldn't designate a racial or national enemy, they'd play up the distinction between men and women as their primary struggle. And if they couldn't do that they'd go after certain age groups. They'd find something.

i think that's part of the reason fascists in America have latched so heavily onto being anti-LGBTQ. They're slowly realizing that open racism is broadly unpopular, so they're flailing about trying to coherently designate a different enemy. What they fail to realize is unspoken racism is perfectly permitted in America, but they can't help themselves. They have to say the quiet part.

I agree though I think the main strain of Fascism in America is Christian fascism, which colors their hostility towards LGBT people and ideas. Trump was popular among that type because he basically declared that open racism is back on the menu.

I think those people are drawn to anti-LGBT stuff because if you aren't LGBT to begin with it's a very easy set of rules to follow. And they would like to in order to claim to be religiously righteous follow at least some rules they can tangentially trace back to the bible and all the actual stuff the new testament and bible tells you to do is too hard so they picked one rule in leviticus and arbitrarily decided that one is really important. Which is pretty stupid because they don't do the same for the other rules in that section like not shaving, no tattoos, no eating pork, be nice to immigrants etc

they would have just defined a new previously accepted group as evil. Maybe people from the mediteranean, indians, asians, africans, the french, the english, etc as long as they were around they would have found someone. All it takes to be racist is wanting to because you can just pick any arbitrary group and racialise them due to the fact the whole thing is arbitrary to begin with

A history prof explained it pretty well once. A math teacher has to understand math or kids will fail the state exam. A science teacher has to explain science. An English teacher has to know how to write and read subtext.

But a history teacher just has to read from the book. Before Common Core, state exams for history were all rote memorization of facts. Put the coach in history because they can read from the textbook.

In all seriousness, at least back in the 90s we were still tip-toeing around the USSR in history classes because all the books were written in the 70s and 80s, when "The Fall of the Soviet Union" was a wet dream to the West rather than a presumed inevitability. We just kinda ended our history textbooks at WW2, for the most part. Everything after the 1940s was college level material that didn't get touched.

Far more often, what you'd get in history class was these revanchist takes on the American Revolution and the Civil War. These were the topics that history classes loved to fixate on. You'd spend a full semester dissecting a laundry list of Founding Fathers, all of whom got one flavor of hagiography or another. Then the Civil War got both-sides to the point where even die-hard wanna-be Confederates were rolling their eyes.

I will say that my AP class material was focused primarily on the Reconstruction and dawn of the Industrial Revolution, and it was surprisingly good. Didn't hurt that my senior level history teacher was a heavyweight in the Texas teacher's union and took all this shit fairly seriously. But she was still very reticent of the minefield labor politics was for a bunch of Houston suburbs failkids. So we got a lot of winks and nudges toward additional readings, without her ever coming out and ringing the "Union Strong" dinner bell.

Is if the Nazis wouldn't have turned on each other after the genocide of undesirables was completed.

One of the dangerous things about fascism that people seem to not understand is that it never ends. They have to have an enemy to consume because they can create nothing themselves. It is ultimately a self harming ideology. A species chewing its own legs off because it finds them too unsightly.

The work camps in Nazi Germany had the explicit goal, discussed in letters of the people running them, of bringing the interned to their "natural end", i.e. work them to death, and many people were indeed killed this way.

apparently that was already a German phrase the Nazi's just thought it would be funny to write it on a camp where they work people to death. The slogan is a stupid joke. Because that's their sense of humour
