i mean, originally hispanics were considered white before they needed to use them as scapegoats for shit.
It's all arbitrary.
I've even seen papers that ask for your race that has hispanic off somewhere else like "ethnicity" cuz it's only a "race" in america to separate it from white-white people.
Maybe I'm talking more about colorism or something. A lot of mexicans can pass off as white, as they look white, while a lot of mexicans look more indigenous if that makes sense.
Brought up the papers things as one example but I think race has to do a lot with how others treat you. A different example might be the difference between MAS supporters and the fash in Bolivia. The colonized and the colonizer if that makes sense.
Mind you my before and after not that stark but still noticeable and I wonder where I stand. I know at the end of the day white supremacists will kill me but they do that to everyone not pure enough. Guess I'm more trying to figure out what privileges I have and trying to be mindful of them. Like how can I use this to help out my more marginalized comrades irl or something.
nah for sure, youre right. While it's absolutely a construct that doesn't change the fact that it has real world consequences for people.
The thing with hispanic/latino people and how their labeled in the states always gets me riled up bc its a pretty obvious example of how it breaks down under any kind of scrutiny but yeah.
