CTH obviously didn’t do their research before the most recent Patreon ep. They’re legit upset that an “unarmed woman” was shot in the Capitol building.

She was shot while trying to climb through a window into the area where they were keeping the politicians. I get that calling this idiocy a coup is stupid, I get that it’s going to be used to crack down on leftist groups with increased surveillance. I get that the state is a much more significant threat than these dipshits, and I’m not happy that the state killed someone. But chapo had obviously not seen the video when they made this ep cause nobody in their right minds would think the state would just let someone waltz into a secured area housing some of the highest-ranking politicians in the country, armed or otherwise. I don’t see what else they would’ve expected to come out of that situation and trying to call police brutality or unjust state violence here seems misguided to me and ultimately futile.

Kinda feels like they’re just trying to distance themselves from the MSM narrative and are over-correcting a little bit

Edit to add that the guest was obviously downplaying the situation - saying that the woman was simply “standing near” a window and just happened to get shot. And he’s supposed to be the one who knows what’s going on... can’t tell if just uninformed or dishonest narrative peddling.

This is their shtick though. They've always done stuff like this to some degree. Will was straight up just regurgitating twitter takes. I caught onto this a long while back. If you follow the chapos on twitter, and follow who they follow, you'll see it every time. Sometimes it's obvious and Will might even mention it's from twitter. But this one he's definitely doing the grade-school book report of "summarize this in your own words" kind of thing. Where you just change "The guy went to the store to buy a cake" to "A cake was bought at a store by the guy." That's why they come off as insightful. They just crowd source takes from twitter and if you're already an online leftist, you get those takes filtered to you anyways. Think of all the twitter screens that get posted here. You end up getting what you already see/think regurgitated back to you. So it seems like you're learning something or that their takes are pretty good. But it's literally just them reading a lot of social media and taking the best stuff.

A lot of their reaction to the coup claims and how this is being framed comes from them seeing exasperated libs on twitter thinking everything Trump does is a coup attempt. They also have grown tired of the right-wing-watch genre of leftist. The libs expanded into that space after 2016, so it's not cool anymore. They actually did some early eps on the right wing watch stuff. But present Chapos would tell past Chapos they're being lib for worrying about it. Once you realize it's all about twitter takes then it's easier to see how they arrive at their conclusions.

I agree with everything and particularly your second paragraph. People often accuse leftists of being “contrarian,” and it’s often bullshit, but this episode particularly struck me as really just being contrarian relative to lib twitter takes.

Lol, good point. I was struck at the complete apparent lack of plan. I don’t think most of them expected to get nearly that far.

It is interesting to think about what could’ve happened if trump were more competent. What if he had found a way to maintain his popular support but also gained a solid hold over one of the federal police forces?

It’s time to move beyond Chapo. They served their purpose in the Bernie era and now they are out of touch rich shitheads that have no idea what they’re talking about half the time. Pure liberalism.

Any good pod recs to fill the hole? I’m a huge pod person and CTH is my most-listened to so I’ll need to find other stuff.

I’ve heard them mentioned a ton so I guess it’s finally time to check them out in-depth... thanks!

Rev Left Radio is fantastic. Breht interviews a lot of different types of lefties. It's actually funny to hear him interview hardcore third-worldists one week and then like a welfare guy the next week.

Not really a lefty pod, but Revolutions is an absolute banger to listen to. He just restarted, picking up Russia after pausing after the failures of 1905.

Unfortunately, I don’t really listen to podcasts. I’ve listened to a few podcasts that were one-offs or short lived but nothing to replace the chapo void (honestly I’ve probably listened to like less than ten total podcasts in my life, just not a huge podcast fan) so I don’t have any good suggestions, I am sorry 😞 chapo was my top listened to as well.

Haha no worries. I think I’m slowly starting to move more towards purer comedy pods - gradually taking the grill pill I guess

Who gives a shit! When did murdering police become "were they approaching them menacingly? Oh well that's aok, good on the pigs." Fucking hell, you should be upset that the cops killed someone even if that someone is better off dead! You don't have to mourn the person to think acab! But this is stupid shit.

ACAB and I literally said I’m not happy about it but if you expect anything else to happen when someone tries to storm an area with the Vice President, VP elect, and most of congress then you’re an idiot. Listen to the episode if you haven’t already - they spend several minutes lamenting this woman when this was clearly the only outcome of that situation. They’re just being contrarian and obviously didn’t bother to look into the situation before spouting off about it. Every online person who could stomach the video knew exactly what happened that same night, but somehow all of the chapos plus their supposedly informed guest couldn’t figure it out before going on air

It's more then just the podcast there seems to be a bunch of leftists on twitter trying their hardest to stretch the Capitol break in as somehow a good thing and a working class uprising.

I didn't see the full video either before WaPo published it, so I didn't think they were totally wrong.

There’s nothing wrong with being behind when things are moving that fast. But when you’re extremely online as they are it seems weird that they’d totally miss the video (multiple angles all over twitter, I don’t even have an account and I saw it) and on top of that they went on air and talked about it when the obviously hadn’t bothered to check the facts.

Their process was: Watch cable news and lib meltdowns -> just say the exact opposite of them without looking into it further and we’ll probably be right
