So many people are caught in this “nobody ever deserves to have bad things happen to them, no matter what, period”, regardless of that person’s actions or clearly stated goals and beliefs.

There's a really effective argument against this:

"You're saying that Hitler didn't deserve to die? You're saying Mussolini didn't deserve to die? Are you a fascist?"
