The cultural divide is going to continue to grow as liberals stay on Twitter and the right goes to Parlr (once Trump makes an account). Small chance (I'm thinking 30%) that the Left gets tired of fully lib Twitter (or fully lib Twitter gets tired of them) and moves to Mastodon instances.

Untick the "Enable advanced web interface" box in preferences and it will look pretty much identical to twitter.

it's UI is a bit strange, you just have different things open in different columns. i like it but not everyone does. there's a few alternate frontends for it to make it more conventional.

I haven't used it a ton, but in what way?

It's federated/FOSS nature should mean that UI issues can be customized away, but maybe there's a core issue of some sort?

Oh if it's like that, I think you'll come around if there's ever an exodus. Any new platform is gonna take some getting used to, especially with the complexities of federation at hand. It'd be an organic thing anyway since it's Twitter's game to lose (mass bans targeting leftists, for instance).

Customizing the UI requires not being too repelled by the UI to sign up.

Nah you just use a different one. This ain't twitter, you don't go to your account settings to pick the theme.

Web 2.0 and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

Perhaps there should be 4 social media sites; one for authoritarian right-wingers, one for libertarian right-wingers, one for authoritarian leftists, one for...

There's a lot of their base that 1. Won't be able to use parlr due to it being not as convenient of a platform and 2. Actually don't want to be seen shmoozing with literal neonazis on that platform.

A large chunk of the republicans are fucking completely bought into it, but a bigger chunk are just white pearl clutches that want zero to do with actual fascist ideology.
