He wouldn't unilaterally cancel the Electoral College and declare Trump the President again

No, the only reason this was even being discussed was because it's QAnon insanity and detachment from reality

I mean it's essentially the same people smugly scolding the libs and left who want to abolish the EC that "We're a republic, not a democracy", that a huge margin of victory in the popular vote doesn't matter because the EC actually elects the President, and that the EC is actually very good because it protects "small states" or w/e whenever they "win" an election that they would have lost under a more sane electoral system suddenly coming to the realization that all their baseless and obvious lies about "voter fraud" would be completely moot because the Electoral College actually elects the President. So they essentially tripled down on their conceived alternate reality where Trump won in a 49-state landslide, actually, where they can will their fantasies and new Constitutional powers into existence just by believing in it hard enough.

Extremely cumbersome sentences there but w/e idc

Probably because even Pence isn't that stupid and understands that even pretending these lunatic arguments have some semblance of a legitimate legal basis is extraordinarily dangerous.

Pence isn't nihilistic, he has a material stake in ensuring the United States doesn't collapse into a Years of Lead type situation

Like these fucking reptiles in the Republican Party, no matter how much they literally were inciting people to riot for Trump, do not want them to actually do that. Like, another extremely visible aspect of the Capitol Hill Riot and ensuing fallout with the Republicans all lining to piously flagellate themselves for their own words on CNN is that American politicians literally believe they can say whatever outrageous lies they want and nobody will ever actually do anything about it. In fact, they are banking on it. It is itself a type of virtue signaling, no different from Democrats who rhetorically show support for BLM or w/e while simultaneously backing up the cops who violently crush them. They don't actually believe in anything they say, and are banking on everyone else being just as cynical and not acting on words fronting for beliefs that aren't genuine.

Unfortunately these morons completely miscalculated because they are very much tailing the masses who make up the base of their own party, they don't understand what motivates these people because their material interests are in a different world divorced from theirs, so they were genuinely surprised when thousands of lunatics took them at their word and tried to overthrow the government.
