What's the easiest way to grab a protected stream?

Example - MSNBC Live Stream - Watch News For Free

How can I grab an arbitrary amount of that live stream? For example - an hour. Is there an app I can torrent?

I have the Internet Download Manager but all it grabs is ~30 seconds in a .ts file.

The last time I tried to use VLC. The instructions were like "Here's how to use VLC to record video by creating your own digital Rube Goldberg machine..." The instructions went on and on. But I clicked, clicked, clicked anyway. After an hour - I realized I had "succeeded" in the first few seconds. My download was still a 1kb file.

I googled it but I'm still a bit confused.

      My guess how it works...

      1. It has browser integration.

      2. After some setup/experimentation - I'll click "Record" (or whatever) and do quick test to grab a minute of video to see if everything is working.

      Is that close?

It doesn't have browser integration. You can add windows as inputs and capture whatever is inside them.
