It's the fucking worst. In Austria+Germany everybody's so pleased with themselves at how well we acknowledge genocide and how seriously we take "never again". But honestly, the rhetoric about immigrants, especially Muslims, is so fucking bad. What "never again" exactly? It doesn't seem like we learned very much - it's easy to be kind and just to a minority that barely exists here anymore. It doesn't mean anything if you can't extrapolate the lesson to how you treat other minorities that do. Though our far right gets caught in minor anti-Semitic and racist scandals like every other day it feels like, so I guess the lesson didn't stick in any form.
Like over a decade ago, somebody graffiti'd the local concentration camp with "What the Jews were to our grandfathers, the Muslims are to us" and I've never gotten that out of my head.
