This is pretty fucking insane. I do feel confident that nothing will happen to any congresspeople and staff who actively aided the golpistas

I feel like it will be one extreme or the other.

Essentially, the FBI or other agencies reveal everybody who was involved in the attack, and the book gets thrown at them. The alternative is some patsies are made to take the fall. In this case, the closest you may get to the government would an aide or advisor to a chud politician.

I actually gravitate towards the former, seeing that the Congressmembers who may have actually had a role in planning or coordinating the attacks are the types of people that the Republicans would be more than willing to "give up" (they rock the boat too much in the party and they could easily be replaced by somebody who would be more obedient to the party establishment).

We've still got the 16th to look forward to see where we're at on this.

I think another riot, then book gets thrown, if barely anything then it fades out with some of the social media posting idiots getting a couple years at worst.

With that 45% republican approval of the takeover, threading that needle would take a lot of strategic effort. Idk if enough supporters would buy it especially if they’re the constituents of those members who suffer consequences.

Imagine if Dems weren't just controlled opposition. Using the same logic they are with Trump's impeachment, democrats could remove enough Republicans to gain a supermajority in the senate and push for electoral reform, an end to gerrymandering, a widening of the number of supreme court justices, and so on. Is there a case in history where a political party like the Democrats are this allergic to power?

The Mensheviks perhaps, though they were rather short-lived.
