This was inspired by my post yesterday about how the metal community is full of chuds and other varieties of reactionaries, so I've been compiling a list of all the bands that I know are at least not reactionary. I'm only including extreme metal bands because there's more ambiguity since these bands aren't as mainstream as something like Black Sabbath, Metallica, or Judas Priest.
This list doesn't include bands that are 'apolitical' because the list would be way too long and it would be 99% death metal bands that most people already know. I'm also not including any bands who fuse metal with other genres like Rammstein or most metalcore bands unless the metal influences are extremely strong, not because of "metalcore not true metal" but just because many of those bands don't consider themselves to be metal anyway.

I'm a baby metal fan but getting really into doom metal, any good doomy song recs? Going to check out the three or four doom bands above but wondering if I should start somewhere first
You should check our Corrupted, who I’ve been listening to non stop for about 15 years now. Suffocatingly heavy Japanese doom. I don’t think they are on any streaming service but their albums are all easy to find on YouTube. I’m not sure if they are officially leftist, but they definitely have a dystopian worldview and anti-capitalist sensibilities.
What kind of doom do you like? The ones above are mainly dirty, wretched riffs with shrieked vocals. If you want something cleaner or more operatic then you should check out Candlemass, Witchfinder General, Saint Vitus, and Warning.
"Nightfall" by Candlemass is one my all time favorites.

Oh if you like Bell Witch then I would also suggest the band Hell. All their albums are called Hell, Hell II, etc. You should also check out Ahab's album Call of the Wretched Sea, Chrch's Unanswered Hymns, and Tyranny's Tides of Awakening. SubRosa is another doom band with clean vocals that has a female vocalist.
Thank you!! Bell Witch is great to disassociate to and lose myself in if that makes sense? It’s not just depression songs, it helps me de-stress a lot
Yeah doom metal is my "space out in the shower for 45 minutes and contemplate life" music
