He was covering the BLM protests this summer, a lot more people follow him from that probably. From what I can tell, the biggest problem people have with him is that he works for bellingcat, who have been in a long feud with grayzone people and mark ames/War nerd over the proper narrative of the Syria war
Agreed, but his feud with bellingcat is more with the other people, Evans hasn't really been involved with their Syria stuff afaik. More like guilt by association (that part of it, at least)

I'm not familiar with Evans, but it's hard to discredit Ames and the Radio War Nerd.
