    Jacobin is talking about the Freikorps, but it was all done under orders of Noske.

    Noske was a social democrat. He was part of the SPD government and (IIRC) defense minister or the equivalent.

    They sicked the Freikorps on the left and did nothing but lick army boots, their reward was the stabbed in the back myth and an army coup.

      They also did stuff like this repeatedly. The crushed the Soviet Republic of Munich before the Spartakist uprising, they sent the Freikorps after the alliance of communists and syndicalists that staged the Battle of the Ruhr, a proletarian uprising in Germany's biggest industrial area, and that's just the main events. There were a lot of smaller riots, mutinies and the like which they also clamped down on mercylessly.
