I've made it through the entire original run this week, and I've got 2 more episodes of End of Evangelion to go before that one is done.

I'm finding myself much preferring the EoE version of the ending - it was nice to see character's plots being tied up visually, and it just kind of....made more sense to me.

I know there's another series of NGE (Rebirth, right?), but I might only watch the parts that expand on the story.

Rebirth is like a recap film with new footage. It's more a side-piece to the main series than replacing it. And the Rebuilds are extremely post-modern retelling of the main theme (I'd say worse at it) while adding new stuff that reflects Anno's new mental states as he went from stressed out animator in the '90s to over-successful uber-otaku producer/director of the 2000s/2010s.

I prefer EoE just because it's one of the bleakest, saddest depictions in animation of what it personally feels like when everything around you is literally or ideologically falling apart. But again, it's all very post-modern so it basically sits aside the main TV series rather than being something that objectively overwrites it.

Anno can't keep from copying Tomino's homework and did what he did with the Zeta Gundam A New Transition movies lol
